January Horror Block

It’s that time of the month where horror goodies arrive in my mailbox from lands far away!*

*Canada

All this horror in one box!

All this horror in one box!

Another Rue Morgue. I’m not super into the horror mags as I probably should be, but they do give me something to read on my lunch break. I am excited about The Twilight Zone comic because who doesn’t love The Twilight Zone?

I'm quickly getting a nice stack of mags to read.

This month was a double shirt month. On Twitter, Horror Block had teased there would be a Child’s Play themed item and this t-shirt is it. I am willing to give this shirt away (it’s a ladies L) because since 1988 I’ve been scared of this movie. No way in hell I’m wearing this.

NOAP

NOAP

I caught the first few episodes of American Horror Story: Freakshow, but I haven’t kept up my watching of it. For me, AHS is a lot like the Star Trek movies: the odd numbered seasons are the only ones I can watch all the way through.

I'm always here for American Horror Story shirts.

The design on this shirt is only ok. Certainly not as awesome as this little number I wore this weekend:

I should have been the Supreme

Do you know how hard it was to push the flower into this figurine’s hands? The theme of this box was “Things that are Difficult to Do” as you will soon see. I’m kinda “meh” on this, though.

I forgot Living Dead Dolls were a Thing

Another thing I’m kinda “meh” on. MadBalls are ok; I guess they’re trying to come back? I’d give this to my kid if I wasn’t afraid of him swallowing it. This one is named Eye Sore.

I also forgot MadBalls were a Thing.

I also forgot MadBalls were a Thing.

I can’t tell you what this one is named because I couldn’t get the damned thing open. What happened to plastic eggs that you could just pop open? Wtf do I need to twist it for?

It looks like a PokeBall. Too bad it didn't open like one.

And that’s January’s block!

December Horror Block

Sorry for the delay in getting December’s review out. The holidays coupled with Mav coming home for 2 weeks meant I wasn’t particularly inclined to do any posting. But now that everything’s settled down, on to the Horror Block!

I don't think 2 oz is gonna be enough

Zombie hand sanitizer! I actually don’t use a lot of hand sanitizer/antibacterial stuff. I prefer good old soap and water so I can keep the good bacteria that I have. But this is good to carry in my purse for emergency zombie outbreaks.

No Winston?! Boooooo!

No Winston?! Boooooo!

Another magazine, this time with the Ghostbusters on the cover. Minus one Winston Zeddmore so I’m not down with that.

Perfect for that toddler in your life

I’m always too scared to squeeze these things hard because I’m afraid all the goo will pop out and get over everything. I’ll give this to my son when he’s old enough to appreciate it. Kids like gross-out stuff like this.

So cute!

So cute!

Yay another Funko Pop! I haven’t seen The Creature from the Black Lagoon in a loooooooooong time, but he’ll look cute next to my Pops of Marie Laveau and Myrtle Snow.

They're heeeeereeee

A Poltergeist mouse pad! I’ll have to test this out at work as that’s the only place where I use a mouse. I hope it works well because this quality of this is really nice.

"You've always been here"

“You’ve always been here”

A very nice The Shining t-shirt! I love that the background print is the pattern of the carpet.

October Horror Block

To say that I was happier with October’s Horror Block than I was with September’s is probably the understatement of the year. I gave the “Eddie” mask to a coworker who is a big Iron Maiden fan; she was over the moon about it. I’m still washing the shirts to get the latex smell out of them.

So let’s dive into October’s box, shall we?

The horror...the horror...

The horror…the horror…

Looks pretty good. Let’s dig a little deeper.

Wes Craven has seen inside your soul. And finds it wanting.

Wes Craven has seen inside your soul. And finds it wanting.

November’s issue of Fangoria with an interview with Wes Craven, a Build Your Own Zombie kit, and a box of Cereal Killers Sticker Cards. I’m excited to read the magazine; I don’t think I’ve ever read Fangoria before (cue the gasps). I’m not sure if I’m going to break out the zombie kit. It’s just two tubs of not-quite-Play-Doh and unless I take it to work, I have nowhere in the house to display my masterpiece where a 2 year old won’t grab it.

Good thing I'm not allergic to peanuts

These kind of remind me of the Garbage Pail Kids stickers that were popular when I was a kid. Of course back then my mom wouldn’t let me have any Garbage Pail Kids stickers, so I had to live vicariously through my friends.

4000% Daily Value of Guts? That's a good amount of that.

Opening the two sticker packs inside confirmed my thoughts.

I would probably eat Scream of Wheat

The cards have neat stuff on the back along with a checklist to make sure you collect them all. I’d be likely to seek more of these out because they are pretty clever.

Ki-ki-ki-ki Ma-ma-ma-ma

Pretty sweet Friday the 13th shirt. My very first!

Blu-ray? Really?

Blu-ray? Really?

I was really excited to see a movie in this month’s box until I saw it was in Blu-ray format. I don’t have a blu-ray player, nor do I plan on getting one for one movie. This kind of annoys me a bit. While it’s awesome to get a surprise box every month, it’s not awesome to get something I can’t use that I paid for. The mask was one thing–I could have kept it if I wanted, even if I didn’t know who Eddie was. I wish there had been an option when I signed up to choose either DVD or Blu-ray for my movie choice. But I’m giving this one away to @GraveyardSister who I know will enjoy it.

I beg to differ, ReAction Figures.

September Horror Block

I’ll admit I’m a bit of a subscription box junkie, so when I saw there was a website out there that would send you neat horror-related items for less than $30, I was sold. Nerd Block has not only horror boxes, but nerdy boxes for adults and kids. I had just made the deadline for the September box (horror block bills on the 10th of the month & ships out on the 25th). I got my horror block on Monday which, considering it was coming from Canada, was faster than I expected.

What's in the box?!

What’s in the box?!

The box was a good size and had a bit of weight to it.

I'm scared. Hold me.

I’m scared. Hold me.

Never being one to follow instructions, I opened the box.

Sept HB book tats

All right, not bad. I was excited to get a copy of Rue Morgue Magazine’s Horror Movie Heroes. This one is about the directors of horror, so it should give me some new movies to watch. Temporary tats aren’t really my thing, but I can see myself slapping them on for a quick costume if I’m feeling lazy.

Or I could just use this as a costume

According to the packaging that came with this mask, this is a character from an Iron Maiden album cover. Not being well versed in Iron Maiden or their album covers, I’m gonna have to take their word on it. The mask smelled very heavily of latex and the smell seeped into the shirts a bit. I feel sorry for anyone who might have an allergy who got this box; I don’t remember seeing any allergen warnings when I signed up for the block.

Scary clown is scary

Scary clown is scary

The block came with a second shirt featuring Pennywise from Stephen King’s It. This is where I admit I haven’t seen the movie all the way through, nor have I read the book. I’m not scared of clowns, per se, but the less I see of them, the happier I am. Also seeing the movie may kill my crush on Tim Curry since he played the titular clown.

Not bad for a first block, even if the mask smelled everything up. I can’t wait to see what next month’s block brings!
